A Critical Thought on Healing

Updated: 12 hours ago

24th April 2025 Written by Dvonne Loring

I see the word “conscious” thrown around a lot in the healing / personal development / spiritual spaces

What does it mean?

Conscious - to be aware of

Aware of what exactly?

Our wounding

Trauma

Triggers

Insecurity

Shame

Fears

Our strengths

Needs

Wants

Desires

Longings

Just to name a few

To be conscious doesn't mean you’re aware of everything

To believe you know all that lies within the recesses of the unconscious is both arrogant and ignorant, and quite frankly... dangerous

Instead consider - to be conscious as a posture

It’s to be humbled by our ever-present blind spots

To understand all of our light inevitably casts a shadow

To be gracious that there will forever be more that we don’t know than we do

.

I’m not healed

I never will be “fully” healed

That is not the aim nor is it the goal

I am a living, breathing being

A collection of every experience I’ve ever had

An extension of everything that has preceded me in my ancestry and lineage

I am a reflection of time and place in this grand masterpiece called existence

To heal means to understand how to move with all that has

Touched you

Hurt you

Harmed you

In a way that doesn’t cause more harm to you or those around you

To heal means to be courageous to experience Love and discover ways it can express itself passionately through you and pour into the world around you

To me - healing is assuming the noble responsibility of all of this

It is to understand the altar of Truth - that I am deeply, imperfectly, beautifully human

Healing is the process of waking up and falling asleep over and over again

That journey never ends

There is always more of ourselves to become intimate with

May we be humbled by this

Don’t be seduced into “healing” becoming yet another mask to wear

We are incredibly dynamic, complex and marvelously fascinating creatures

Our humanity is far too vast to be subject to absolute reductivity

Healing to me is learning to dance with it all

The pain and the pleasure

The heaviness and the hope

The grief and the gratitude

The ache and the awe

All of it

Everything

All. at. Once.

That is healing, to me

What does healing mean to you?

xx

A most beautiful expression and so true. Spiritual bipassing and healing that becomes characterised as a final destination is fantasy and so unfair to the soul.

I acknowledge the traditional custodians of all the lands here in Australia and pay respects to their culture, lore and history. We have much to learn from their elders past, present and emerging. May we all unite and heal together.
